2009 Songwriting Competition Information

Registered attendees* may submit one (1) song to the Kauai Music Festival songwriting competition. This event is entirely optional.

To submit your song, you must first be registered to attend the Festival. Entries from people who have not registered to attend will not be considered.

You can submit your entry in one of two ways:

1)  Mail a CD with your name & lyric sheet to:

The Kauai Music Festival
PO Box 566
Kalaheo, HI 96741

PLEASE DO NOT REQUIRE A SIGNATURE FOR A DELIVERY RECEIPT - We often pick up our mail after hours and we can't get your CD if you require a signature.

OR

2) NEW THIS YEAR!
Submit your entry online thru SonicBids by clicking here, joining SonicBids, and paying a nominal $5 submission fee (probably about the same as burning & mailing a CD, but a whole lot less trouble!)

NOTE:  PLEASE SUBMIT TO SONICBIDS USING THE SAME NAME YOU USED TO REGISTER WITH THE KMF (Not a Band Name) - We need to be able to easily match the entries to the attendees.  If we can't find you, you won't win.

All entries must be received at SonicBids or by mail no later than FRIDAY, JULY 24 (NO EXCEPTIONS).

Please note the following requirements to enter:

1)  All mailed entries must be supplied on an audio CD.  If more than one song is on the CD, then clearly note which track is being entered.

2)  All entries must be accompanied by a lyric sheet.

3)  For the purposes of the competition, a song must have both lyrics and music.

4)  All songs must be original, unpublished songs that have been written or co-written by the entrant(s). For competition purposes, unpublished means not published by a major music publishing organization.

5)  Only amateur songwriters are allowed to submit entries to the competition. For competition purposes, amateur is defined as anyone who has never had any song they wrote appear on any of the Billboard song charts.

----------

Five songwriting competition finalists will be notified at the beginning of the second day of the Festival.

The final competition will be held on the evening of the second day of the Festival. Each of the five Finalists must perform their own songs in our songwriting competition. The Finalists are also entitled to have one person accompany her or him in the performance. Either can perform vocals or instruments or both. Alternatively, the Finalist may sing to a pre-recorded CD track.

Prizes for the 2009 KMF Songwriting Competition will be announced at a later date.  (For reference, Past prizes have included appearances in a BMI Showcase in either New York, Nashville, or Los Angeles; Round-trip airfare for two on Hawaiian Airlines between the mainland and Hawaii; and various acoustic and electric guitars and recording equipment.)

*Please note that previous KMF Songwriting Contest Winners are ineligible to enter in consecutive years.  (i.e. the 2008 winners cannot enter again in 2009, but prior year winners can enter in 2009.)
