Charles Michael Brotman is the 2005 Grammy award winning producer for the inaugural category of "Best Hawaiian Music", and he is a multiple nominee and winner of Hawaii's Na Hoku award for his guitar recordings. In the past few years, four of his guitar recordings have reached the top 10 on the national radio charts in the Smooth Jazz and New Age categories.

Brotman is currently active as a record company owner (Palm Records), and continues composing and producing music in his recording studio in Kamuela, Hawaii (Lava Tracks Recording). Brotman's guitar trio Kohala has toured extensively throughout Japan, headlining venues such as the Blue Note Osaka, Sweet Basil (Tokyo) and The Blue Note Fukuoka. The trio has released seven CDs in Japan, given numerous live radio performances and interviews on Japan's largest radio stations (including Tokyo FM, J-Wave, and FM 802), and has been featured in dozens of articles in Japanese fan magazines and music trade magazines (FM Fan Magazine, Acoustic Guitar Magazine, CD Journal, etc).

Brotman received B.A. and M.A. degrees in music, attending Cornish Institute, The Evergreen State College, and University of Hawaii at Manoa. After teaching classical guitar at the University of Hawaii Music Department for 9 years, he began work as a composer/producer. His production work and compositions include numerous CDs and commercials, and have appeared as underscores on shows such as Dateline, Oprah, Entertainment Tonight, Nickalodeon, and MTV.
